WISP is a not-for-profit community dance organisation with a constitution, governing board and bank account where 2 signatures are required – those of the Treasurer and Chair – to authorise any payments made.
Our main opportunity to earn is through the box office at our shows. We therefore encourage everyone we can think of to come and see our shows and we very much appreciate the support we are given. We send fliers out in English and Welsh across the region to try and encourage audiences to support us.
Every year we undertake fundraising events ranging from Bollywood Dance Evenings with Indian food, jewellery, textile and gift stalls, to a “Grease”-themed night in a local pub. We always have raffles, often with lots of small prizes, as we know how much members and their friends enjoy them. Individual members and volunteers have also taken on events like selling snacks and sweets at break times in their school.
This year we intend to hold a fundraising Christmas party and disco.
We have been fortunate to secure some revenue funding from The Youth Service of Flintshire County Council for our on-going weekly programme until March 2014, also to support our taster sessions in special schools.
We have often been supported in the past by the Arts Council of Wales, especially with Arts for All Lottery funding which has enabled us to have professional artists to work with us for our additional, themed performance projects.
We have recently been awarded funding from Gwirvol to conduct Internet safety training prior to launching our own website.
Our main focus is on our weekly classes but, when we are not subject to funding constraints, we also put on holiday dance/arts days and perform in other local and further afield festivals, platforms and events.
Donated money goes to venue, materials and most importantly sufficient numbers of support staff to provide and enable inclusive opportunities.
State funding for groups like ours has diminished across the years, with less available now than there has ever been. It is in this difficult climate that with the launch of this website we have created a Just Giving profile to bolster our donation potential, and we encourage and appreciate any donations that are made to help our cause.
